Open spaces/play area update
To help us improve our play facilities throughout the Borough, Thurrock Council has been awarded just over a million pounds of Play Builder funding, by the Government. Each Community Forum will be able to apply for up to £50,000 to enable them to improve play opportunities in their local parks or open spaces, aimed at the 8-13 year olds.
It is important that the local community are involved in deciding what facility they would like to see improved and that children, young people and other local residents are part of the design and development of their chosen site.
There will be a three year programme in which 25 sites can be developed. Some Forum areas have already been identified to be developed by next March. They are spread across the Borough and are Dilkes Park (South Ockendon), West Thurrock recreation ground, Fobbing Recreation ground, Hardie Road (Stanford-Le-Hope), Usk Road (Kenningtons, Aveley), Delafields (Little Thurrock) and the Daisyfield (Tilbury). ngage will be supporting the Community Forums, where necessary, to ensure that their communities can benefit from this fantastic funding opportunity.
It is hoped that this funding will finance play areas that offer exciting, challenging opportunities for this age group and make good use of the natural landscaping. Community Forums will be encouraged to apply for other grants to develop these spaces for use by the whole community.
